Rootstock Recap Amidst a Devastating Week for Local Farmers

Thanks to all who came out on a rainy Saturday afternoon to support Rootstock! We were so inspired by the generosity and good vibes that warmed the Red Barn from inside out on a dreary day! Thanks especially to the fabulous musicians- Sloan Wainwright, Twisted Pine, Jacob Bernz, and Daisycutter, for performances that would have been equally at home on the biggest stages in the country. Thanks also to our sponsors: Green Mountain Energy, NOFA-NY, The Hudson River Tractor Company, Artisan Wine Shop, Beacon Pantry, Quinn's, and WKZE 98.1 FM - Celebrating Musical Diversity. We couldn't have done this without them. The top-notch craft beverages by Hudson Valley Brewery, Obercreek Brewing Company, 2 Way Brewing Company, and Treasury Cider, as well as the amazing tacos and empanadas of Poppy's Farm 2 Trailer provided the crowning touch on the festivities, and a true taste of local-grown!

Even more recently, we are deeply saddened by the devastation of several farms very close to home that were affected by Tuesday's storm, which spawned several tornadoes and macrobursts and destroyed young crops, fruit trees, and greenhouses. Extreme weather events like this were the inspiration for Rootstock's founding, and sadly, are something we can only expect to increase in frequency and severity in the future. This has been a truly challenging week for local farmers and has served as a sobering reminder of why we do this.

In addition to keeping in touch with our efforts, we also urge you to support your local farms in their post-storm recovery efforts in the coming weeks through direct donations, attending local fundraising events, and purchasing their products at markets (always a tasty idea!) We are inspired, grateful, humbled, and saddened all at once, but are more committed to our mission than ever.
